Michael V. receives ‘Pinoy Pop Culture Icon’ award at Toycon PH
Actor-comedian Michael V. was given the “Pinoy Pop Culture Icon Award” during the 20th edition of pop culture convention TOYCON PH.
The award, which recognizes personalities “who have elevated and impacted the Filipino popular culture scene,” spoke of the “Bubble Gang” actor’s contributions to television, film, music, and the digital space, as well as his influence to the Filipino audience.
In an interview with GMA, Michael V. said that the recognition is “something that I will cherish for a long time kasi ito ‘yung personality ko eh (because this is my personality).”
“To be able to receive this award na parang embodiment nung pagkatao ko, parang napaka-special para sa’kin,” expressed the “Pepito Manaloto” actor who is also a toy collector. (To be able to receive this award which is like an embodiment of my being, it’s like very special for me.)
Past recipients of the award include the late Mars Ravelo who introduced iconic Filipino superheroes such as Darna, Captain Barbell, and Lastikman; cosplayer and esports talent agency co-founder Alodia Gosiengfiao; “Pugad Baboy” author Pol Medina Jr.; and Berlin H. Manalaysay who is known for creating the Combatron character.
Article continues after this advertisementAside from featuring a wide range of toys, comics, and other collectibles, the convention also organizes musical performances, panel discussions, meet-and-greets, and competitions including the ones for cosplayers.
Michael V., who has been a judge for the convention’s cosplay competition in the past, is currently providing the voice of octopus robot, Octo-1 in the Kapuso series “Voltes V: Legacy.” The comedian, along with the remaining and new cast members of “Bubble Gang,” are hoping to reach a wider audience with the comedy show’s new programming schedule: at 6 p.m. every Sunday.
