The Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival has announced the list of full-length and short film finalists for its 19th edition, which will be screened from August 4 to 13.
The upcoming film festival, which will take place at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), CCP Black Box Theater, and select theaters, confirmed the list of its finalists on its social media platforms on Monday, July 3.
The full-length finalists include the following:
- “Maria” by She Andes
- “Gitling” by Jopy Arnaldo
- “Tether” by Gian Arre
- “Ang Duyan ng Magiting” by Dustin Celestino
- “Bulawan Nga Usa (Golden Deer)” by Kenneth De La Cruz
- “Rookie” by Samantha Lee and Natts Jadaone
- “Huling Palabas” by Ryan Machado
- “When This is All Over” by Kevin Mayuga
- “Iti Mapupukaw (The Missing)” by Carl Joseph Papa
- “As If It’s True” by John Rogers
Cinemalaya also noted that the 10 finalists were the first batch to undergo the film festival’s film lab, which is said to be a “three-month-long film-laboratory mentorship program.”
Meanwhile, the short film finalists include the following:
- “Hinakdal” by Arvin Belarmino
- “Makoko sa Baybay” by Mike Cabarles
- “Ang Kining Binalaybay Kag Ambahanon Ko Para Sa Imo” by Kent John Desamparado
- “Maudi Nga Arapaap (Last Dream)” by Daniel Magayon
- “Kokuryo: The Untold Story of Bb. Undas 2019” by Diokko Manuel Dionisio
- “Tong Adlaw Nga Nag-snow Sa Pinas” by Joshua Caesar Medroso
- “Golden Bells” by Kurt Soberano
- “Sota” by Mae Tanagon
- “HM HM MHM” by Sam Villa-Real and Kim Timan
- “Sibuyas Ni Perfecto” by Januar Yap
Cinemalaya also clarified at a virtual press conference that it decided to hold its 19th edition at the PICC, since the Cultural Center of the Philippines is currently under renovation. The lattermost venue is the venue usually used for the film festival. EDV
