With the recent meeting of their families at a poolside dinner, it looks like things are getting serious between actors Mikee Quintos and Paul Salas. The Sparkle talents were in Cebu to promote their show “The Write One” but also managed to take some time off to celebrate Paul’s 25th birthday at a popular resort with their families present.

The couple has been dating since 2021 when they starred opposite each other in the series “The Lost Recipe” before being paired anew in the new series, which is topbilled by Ruru Madrid and Bianca Umali.

Mikee and Paul talked about their favorite things. For her, it’s a luxury bag her father bought for her, while his favorite is a gaming chair, a gift from Mikee.

As the third of four sisters with only their youngest still in college, Mikee tried to cajole her father into also buying a bag for her after he bought one for her youngest sister. They were traveling at the time and shopping inside a mall.

“Humirit na rin ako with lambing pero ang sagot nya, ‘Ay hindi, nagwo-work ka na.’ Super hurt ako, as in nagpipigil akong umiyak sa gitna ng store,” Mikee recounted.

Instead, she pretended to look at the other items on display. She understood that her father was trying to teach her a lesson. “Pero dahil si Dad ‘yun, ‘di ko mapigilan magpabebe. I think my parents saw that I was trying to hide that I was sulking, so Dad ended up also getting me one!”

Constant reminder

More than the item—a black Louis Vuitton shoulder bag with a heavy gold chain hanging across it—however, it serves as a constant reminder to her “how petty it is to cry over material things.”

“It’s also there to remind me how important it is to stay aware of my feelings and acknowledge where my emotions are really coming from. My first branded bag will forever be memorable because of this lesson,” she said.

“I think no matter how old we get, we’ll always seek the comfort of our parents’ love and care. It’s funny when you get to look back eventually and realize how these petty feelings were all just misunderstood longing for our parents.”

For Paul, he chose the gaming chair Mikee gave him when they were still dating as his prized object.

“That was her first gift to me, a birthday gift. I use it when I work, read, play video games. All my ‘alone time’ is spent on this chair. Feeling ko kasama ko pa rin sya dahil s’ya ang nagbigay,” Paul said.

He recalled how he was apprehensive about taking their relationship to the next level because of his bad experiences with his exes. “[When she gave the chair,] we were still in denial that we were in love with each other. That was around two years ago.”

The chair has leather upholstery and is a League of Legends limited edition. “Only a few were released at the time. She bought it for me because she knew I was into these things,” he said.
