Two months after suffering a heart attack, Gardo Versoza expressed his excitement to get back to work even if he is set to undergo a second angioplasty to cure his clogged arteries.
At a media conference for the upcoming show “Jack & Jill sa Diamond Hills” on Tuesday, Versoza laughed off rumors that he passed away, saying he’s even looking forward to returning to his acting career.
“Excited na [ako]. Actually, bago ako inatake, excited pa akong pumunta ng set. Kahit maaga ‘yung [call time] ko, hindi tense sa set. Nakaka-excite kasi masaya ‘yung company, masaya ‘yung pagkaka-execute ng mga eksena, and masaya ka rin umuuwi,” he said.
(I’m excited. Actually, before suffering from a heart attack, I was excited to go to the set. Even if I have an early call time, it’s not tense on set. I’m excited to work because I’m surrounded by good company, the scenes are fun to execute, which makes me happy even if I go home.)
“So, noong time na ‘yun, excited talaga akong mag-work. Kaso sa hindi inaasahang pagkakataon, ayun,” he further shared, as he implied that production for the series was underway the time he suffered from a heart attack. (At that time, I was excited to work. But because of unforeseen events, this is what happened.)
The seasoned actor admitted that he’s unsure of the cause of his heart problem as he’s not the type of person who gets mad in real life.
“Hindi naman ako pala-galit, hindi maiinitin ang ulo ko, kaso mayroon tayong hindi inaasahang pagkakataong dumarating na hindi kaaya-aya,” he added.
(I’m not the type of person who gets mad. I don’t get annoyed easily, but there are a lot of unexpected and unpleasant events that could happen.)
While the “Flower of Evil” star has yet to disclose when his second angioplasty would take place, he assured that he’s already in a better condition than before.
“Ngayon, kumbaga, kahit may isa pang ugat na gagawin, kaya ko na dahil ‘yung 100% na blockage, na-repair na nila ‘yun. Ang naiiwan na lang is ‘yung 80%. Kapag nag-break, saka na gagawin ‘yung isa [pang angioplasty],” he said.
(Now, even if I’m about to undergo my second angioplasty, I can return to work because 100% of my blockage has been repaired. What remains is the 80%. If I have the chance to take a break, then I will proceed with my second angioplasty.)
In March 2023, Versoza suffered from a heart attack which may have been caused by “too much exercise,” per his wife Ivy Vicencio. It took him a month to be discharged from the hospital, following his confinement at the intensive care unit (ICU), after which he underwent his first angioplasty.
The actor then shared that he’s selling his gym equipment to prepare for his medical expenses. EDV
