Tyson Venegas is just a few steps away from becoming the next “American Idol” after his powerful rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “For Once in My Life” secured him a spot on the Top 10.

The Filipino-Canadian crooner was among the contestants who advanced to the Top 10, according to an update posted on the singing contest’s official Twitter page on Monday, May 1.

Also included in the lucky hopefuls are We Ani, Warren Peay, Haven Madison, Colin Stough, Marybeth Byrd, Oliver Steele, Zachariah Smith, Megan Danielle, and Iam Tongi.

On the other hand, Lucy Love, and Nutsa Buzaladze were eliminated from the competition.

The “Idol” hopeful brought the audience and judges to their feet with a jazzier twist to the classic Stevie Wonder track prior to entering the Top 10.

However, the feedback of judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were not shown in the singer’s performance video.

Following his recent milestone, Venegas said on Instagram that his journey towards his “Idol” dream is not yet over.

“Tonight ROCKED. I have made the #Top10 of @americanidol but it’s not over yet,” he said in the post, as he shared a photo of himself doing a “peace” sign. “Thank you so, so much for your support and votes. Genuinely here because of you all and I hope you’re enjoying all of our performances!”

Venegas first gained recognition after competing in the second season of “The Voice Teens” in 2020, where he was under Team Apl De Ap. EDV
