While Julie Anne San Jose acknowledged that exes can be civil to one another, constantly keeping in touch with a former partner while in a relationship can still be counted as cheating.

San Jose didn’t hesitate to share her thoughts on what counts as cheating, along with her boyfriend, actor-dancer Rayver Cruz, at a vlog uploaded on Bea Alonzo’s YouTube channel on Saturday, April 29.

In the vlog, Alonzo asked the celebrity couple to share their thoughts on what counts as cheating in relationships, as soon as she touched on the topic of their upcoming movie “The Cheating Game.”

“Does it count as cheating if your partner is still in touch with their exes?” Alonzo asked the couple.

“I think it’s just weird,” San Jose answered. “Kapag kasi ex, ex na. Pwedeng maging casual [or] civil, pero kung close [kayo], that’s just weird. It’s just not me.”

Cruz echoed the singer-actress’ response, adding that it’s okay to keep in touch with an ex, as long as the approval of the current partner was sought before doing so.

“Sa ibang tao, kung may abiso ng partner, wife, or girlfriend, pero kapag makikita mo sa itsura ng babae na parang, ‘Ang weird. Ba’t kayo friends?’ Itigil mo na yan,” he said. “Mas matimbang pa rin sa akin ‘yung respeto sa [present partner],” he added, when asked about being friends with an ex prior to their relationship.

(If it’s okay with your partner, wife, and girlfriend to keep in touch with an ex, then it’s okay. But if you see them thinking, “That’s weird. Why are you friends?” Stop it. What matters most to me is the respect of my present partner.)

When asked about having a crush on someone else while in a relationship, the couple pointed out there’s nothing wrong with it — although the “I’ll Be There” singer noted that she only has a crush on Cruz.

During the vlog, Alonzo also asked if liking other people’s photos on social media can be counted as cheating.

Cruz, who burst into laughter, revealed he’s not fond of liking other girls’ photos on social media. However, he recalled a time when he forwarded a post of a woman dancing in a bikini to San Jose, which made the latter feel wary.

Tapos hala, mali pa ata na na-forward ko,” he said.

(There was a time where I forwarded something to Julie Anne, where I pointed out her dance moves. I wanted her to do them because it fits her. I’m really honest, I sent the post to her because I know she can pull off the dance moves. The moves are hotter when she does it. It was not meant to be a lewd remark. But what she noticed was, “Oh, so this is the sexy that you prefer.” Then I realized that it was wrong to forward the post.)

“That was just at the beginning [of our relationship],” San Jose, while laughing, made the clarification.

Since the couple started out as friends, Cruz said he realized that San Jose already had feelings for him when she started to address him with his nickname “Ray” instead of the more platonic “Bro.”

“Tapos tawag na niya kay Rodjun [Cruz] ay Kuya RG,” he added, mentioning his older brother Rodjun Cruz. (Then she calls Rodjun as Kuya RG)

The “All-Out Sundays” also stressed to always “trust a woman’s intuition” when it comes to identifying relationship red flags where he pointed out, “Iba kasi ang spider sense nila eh.”

The celebrity sweehearts made their relationship official at a “JuliVerse” concert in November 2022.

San Jose and Cruz also stressed in a March 2023 interview with Boy Abunda that while their upcoming film revolves around cheating, being unfaithful has “no place” in their relationship. EDV
