Sweety Echiverri, daughter of singer Sheryn Regis and her former partner Earl Echiverri, recalled how she had the “guts and comfort” to come out as bisexual after her mom revealed that she herself is lesbian.
Sweety disclosed this as she spoke about her initial reaction when Regis came out to her, through a video message for the singer aired during an episode of the morning talk show “Magandang Buhay” on Monday, April 24.
“Ang initial reaction ko po when my mom first came out, at first I was very surprised kasi my mom never really showed any sign that she was in a closet. And around that time I was also confused about my sexuality and my self-identity,” Sweety recounted.
“I was a young teenager when she first came out to me. Since then, when my mom came out to me, I actually had the guts and comfort to come out to her and my dad as bisexual,” she continued.
Sweety concluded her message by addressing her mom and saying, “I am so proud of how supportive and how amazing and how representative you are of the LGBTQ community. And good luck to you and your future concerts.”
Regis was then asked what she felt when her daughter opened up about her sexuality, to which she answered, “I’m so proud of her for having an open mind para sa lahat ng gender, kung ano mang sitwasyon ng buhay—naiintindihan niya sa murang edad.”
Regis further said that both she and Earl are supportive of their daughter, revealing that Sweety has been opening up to them about her sexuality since she was 12 years old.
“Pinag-uusapan din namin [ni Earl] na whatever Sweety decides or whatever she prefers, kung ano ang gender preference niya, in-aaccept namin,” Regis stated.
“I accepted her, we accepted her and now she accepts me for being who I am but mommy pa rin ako,” she added.

Regis came out as a lesbian during an interview with talent manager-comedian Ogie Diaz in December in 2021. The singer is currently in a relationship with YouTube content creator Mel de Guia.
