Gretchen Ho pays tribute to journo Roby Alampay as ‘The Big Story’ season ends
Ending the last season of “The Big Story,” broadcaster Gretchen Ho can encapsulate her team-up with Roby Alampaya into one phrase: “a product of God’s sense of humor.”
Alampay, a seasoned journalist who once helmed Business World, anchored the last season of “The Big Story” with Ho on TV 5, but will now give way to two ladies as the news programs’ co-anchors — Regina Lay & Shawn Yao, who will share anchoring duties with Ho, a former athlete before becoming a TV presenter.
On Instagram, Ho said that in the two years that they were anchoring the show, she, a newbie anchor, had learned a lot from Alampay.
“‘The Big Story’ can’t begin a new season without ending the previous one the right way. Aside from the obvious reasons of why this pairing with @robyalampay was a product of God’s sense of humor, I thought it was right that I had my first foray into hard news with you as my co-anchor,” she said.

Ho said that working with Alampay as co-anchor made her realize many things in a professional manner. She said that she even took down notes prior to their newscasts because “I wanted to give sitting beside you some justice.”

She also claimed that she was grateful to Alampay “for graciously obliging me with all my queries & questions,” and not once did he make her feel that she was “too young to hold a voice, too inexperienced to occupy my seat, or too junior to throw in a question.”
“And for that you hold my respect,” she added. EDV
