Korean actress Shin Ye-eun, who gained widespread recognition after starring as Park Yeon-jin in the hit series “The Glory,” admitted that playing the role of a teenage bully gave her nightmares.

Ye-eun took on the role of teenaged Yeon-jin, where majority of her scenes were shown in flashbacks through the eyes of Moon Dong-eun (Song Hye-kyo). The adult version of the main antagonist was then played by Lim Ji-yeon.

“Definitely ‘The Glory,’ she replied. “I knew it was all acting and [a fictional character], but from time to time, I went out of character while filming.”

The actress then admitted that bringing the titular curling iron scene gave her nightmares, adding that she couldn’t sleep without earplugs during the time of filming.

“For instance, I knew the curling iron was cold but seeing my opposite [castmate] crying in pain made me think ‘What am I doing now?’ and that’s when I made a blooper. And I had nightmares after I went home. I couldn’t sleep without earplugs because I got so agitated due to [Yeon-jin’s] dark character,” she said.

Following the hit K-drama, Ye-eun took on the role of Yoon Dan-oh in the period drama “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse.” She is set to share the spotlight with Do Kyung-soo of K-pop boy group EXO and Won Jin-ah in the film “Secret,” a remake of the 2006 Taiwanese film of the same name.

‘I wanted Yeon-jin to be hated by fans’

In a separate interview with The Korea Herald, Ji-yeon revealed that she wanted fans to hate Yeon-jin in the series, noting that she herself could not forgive the character.

“I wanted Yeon-jin to be hated by all ‘The Glory’ fans. I hoped for her not to be tolerated nor understood, not even for a moment. Even I, who played Yeon-jin in the series, could not forgive her,” she was quoted as saying. “If I have gotten all the drama’s fans to despise Yeon-jin, then it seems like my mission has been accomplished successfully.” EDV
