Miss World 2013 Megan Young and husband Mikael Daez have set a ground rule for their marriage — that cheating is unacceptable.
In the Feb. 27 episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the celebrity couple said that honesty and self-care are among their “non-negotiables,” with cheating being their deal-breaker.
“My non-negotiable was no cheating. If ever na mag-cheat ka, then wala na ‘yung relationship (If ever you cheated, then the relationship is over),” Young said, noting that she hasn’t thought about her non-negotiables because their union remains strong through the years.
“I mean, I haven’t thought of a non-negotiable in a really long time,” she clarified.
For Daez’s part, he said that the non-negotiables should be the foundation of every relationship.
“For me, ang non-negotiable is the core of our relationship. It is where our relationship is built in. Para sa akin, first is complete honesty. Very similar to what [Megan] said, open communication. Absolute and complete honesty. And you don’t have to be completely honest instantly, as long as we build towards that. ‘Yung pangalawa dun is that you have to be able to take care of yourself,” he shared.

Host Boy Abunda then hypothetically asked Daez if he would ever take Young back if she ever cheated on him.
“I wouldn’t have to think about it in a while. But for now, maybe no. But at the same time, I think we all take consequences very differently.” he responded.
For her part, the former beauty queen said cheating will break the foundation of their relationship since complete honesty is a must between both parties.
“No, kasi paano siya nangyari in the first place? Marami bang instances bago ka nag-cheat that led up to that? Hindi siya naging honest, so na-break pa niya ‘yung core [ng relationship] which is complete honesty. Yes, naging honest ka at that point na nag-confess ka, but naging dishonest ka,” she added.
(No, because how did it happen in the first place? Were there several instances that led up to cheating? He wasn’t being honest, and he even broke the core of our relationship which is complete honesty. Yes, he became honest in terms of confessing to being a cheater, but you were still being dishonest.)
Abunda then put the couple in the hot seat when he asked if either of them would insinuate that cheating is just a mistake, noting that it’s only meant to be a hypothetical question.
“Yes, we are humans. And we make mistakes. But you have to be able to face the consequences,” the actor said, noting that he and Young previously discussed cheating being seen by some as a mistake. “But at the end of the day, life goes on. Para sa akin ang consequences, masakit ‘yun (it’s painful). But I’m ready to make a mistake and there’s a consequence they have to bear.”
Being open to one another
Daez shared that he and Young are “very open” to one another for the past 13 years they’ve been together.
“There’s something to learn from both personalities. And I think kami ni Megan, very open sa isa’t isa (And I think that Megan and I are very open to one another). The [past] 13 years that we’ve been together, lahat ng mga issues namin (all our past issues), we would take in both of our own ways and we find that solution, we would look back and say, ‘What can we learn from that?’ Our relationship has been a growing [experience],” he added.
Meanwhile, the “Alyas Robin Hood” star revealed that while she and her husband had “intense arguments” in the past, they never shouted at each other.
“Never kami nag-sigawan. Never. Pero may mga instances and very few instances na meron kaming intense arguments that mataas ang boses, mataas ang emotions, pero never kaming nagsisigawan. Pero very emotional,” she said.
(We never shouted at each other. Never. But there are instances, and very few instances, where we would get into intense arguments where we would raise our voices at one another and emotions are high, but we never shout. But we would get very emotional.)
During the episode, Abunda also asked the “Running Man Philippines” host his thoughts about his wife being a K-pop fan. Young is known to be vocal about her love for K-pop, where she revealed that she’s a huge fan of BTS (particularly Jin) and Seventeen.
“I’m super enjoying it. One thing I like about honesty and open communication [in our relationship] is that we’re open to what one wants to do. I was interested in why [nagustuhan ni Megan si BTS’ Jin] so I got into it at nagustuhan ko rin,” Daez said. “And vice versa, [mahilig ako sa] tech, games, and roleplay, and she got into it too. I think that’s one of the biggest strengths of our relationship kaya hindi kami nawawalan ng gana sa isa’t isa.”

I think that’s one of the biggest strengths of our relationship, and that’s why we never get tired of each other.)
Young also shared that her husband’s sense of style is inspired by K-pop and K-dramas as well.
“Lahat ng inspiration sa look and pananamit niya, galing na rin sa K-pop and K-drama. Hindi ako nagdi-dictate sa kanya. A lot of people think na sinasabihan ko si Mikael na magpa-perm or magdamit ng ganito, siya lahat. And I love it, he looks so sexy,” she said.

With a nine-year relationship between them, Young and Daez finally tied the knot in January 2020. Prior to their marriage, the latter only confirmed their romance in February 2017.
The couple also spoke up about being childless in September 2022, where they revealed that they do not mind not having kids in the future since they can continue living their lives. EDV
