Pia Wurtzbach has deferred her plans to join this year’s London Marathon to prioritize her wedding to fiancé Jeremy Jauncey, noting that training for the marathon while planning for the wedding would be a “stressful combo.”
In an Instagram post on Monday, Feb. 27, the beauty queen gave fans an update on her life and disclosed that she has been staying in London to give herself a “wellness break.”
“I’m grateful to have this time OFF…alam ko mahirap because lahat tayo (I know it’s hard because) we can’t get off work just like that,” she said. “So I’m here now…focusing on my health, getting in touch with family—namiss ko talaga (I really missed) not just to spend time with them but actually do life with them. I also want to focus on a major life event, as you know, I’m getting married soon!”
“And this also means I had to defer some plans. Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to join the London Marathon this year,” she continued.
Wurtzbach, who joined the Marathon to raise funds for nonprofit organization Smile Train Philippines, said she contemplated her decision for a long time because she does not want to let anyone down. The said organization helps and provides free surgeries to children with cleft conditions.
“I have a tendency to be hard on myself especially when it comes to hitting goals and I know marathon training [plus] wedding planning will be a stressful combo,” she stated. “So tough as it may be, I know that deferring my entry this year is the right decision.”
“There will be many more marathons and getting married is something I wanna focus on first and enjoy preparing for the wedding stress free,” she added.
Despite this, Wurtzbach urged fans to support her friends who will be running for the same cause. She also sent her well-wishes to her fans and revealed that she is set to return to the Philippines soon.
“Going back, I hope you guys are doing okay and kung hindi naman (if not), I hope you are getting the support you need,” she said. “As for me, balik Pinas na tayo (I will be returning to the Philippines) soon — healthier, stronger and ready to be back in action.”
Wurtzbach announced her engagement to Jauncey in May 2022. In November of the same year, she completed her first-ever New York City marathon and revealed that she would be taking on her “next phase of training” to join the London Marathon in April 2023. /ra
