Korean star Yoo Ah-in under probe for alleged ‘habitual use’ of propofol
Yoo Ah-in, who’s best known for the K-dramas “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and “Fashion King”, is currently under investigation for his alleged habitual use of the anesthetic drug propofol.
Ah-in’s agency, United Artists Agency (UAA) confirmed in an official statement via Korean media outlet Sports Chosun on Thursday, Feb. 9, that the Korean actor is being investigated by the police regarding his use of the drug.
Propofol, a sedative used for anesthesia, has been regulated as a psychotropic drug under South Korea’s Narcotics Control Act since 2011.
“Yoo Ah-in recently underwent a police investigation regarding propofol. He is actively cooperating with investigations related to this and we’ll actively plan to address the aspects that are causing problems [among fans],” UAA’s statement said, as they also apologized for causing concern.
Korean media outlet Korea JoongAng Daily reported that the actor’s hair samples have been sent to the country’s National Forensic Service for analysis after it was said that his propofol usage is “excessively high.” He is currently banned from leaving South Korea as a result.
