‘Dawson’s Creek’ cast eye reunion amid James Van Der Beek cancer battle

Fans can hardly wait for a reunion of the cast of the popular late 90’s series, “Dawson’s Creek” in support of their former co-star James Van Der Beek, who is battling with colorectal cancer.

Van der Beek, 48, rose to fame for his portrayal of Dawson Leery in the hit series. He revealed his stage 3 diagnosis to People magazine in November, saying he’s been keeping this secret since he was 46.

The reunion plan was first broached by Busy Philipps, who shared with Us Weekly that she is in the midst of organizing with co-stars Katie Holmes and Michelle Williams, who played Joey Potter and Jen Lindley, respectively, in the teen drama.

“We’re really trying to figure something out, but there are a couple of people who have some work that cannot be moved,” she said. “It’s like playing chess, trying to get everybody’s schedules to align.”

Philipps, who played Audrey Liddell in the final two seasons of the series, shared that Van Der Beek is also on the loop about the reunion.

“I’m very hopeful that at some point we will. Everybody is, and I’m so glad to see and hear from James — and I know he posted on Instagram that he’s feeling well — and we just have all been really sending him every ounce of good wishes and prayers and hoping for the best,” said the actress.

Van Der Beek, in his interview, said he has been “privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family.”

“There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good,” he further told the outlet.

“Dawson’s Creek” premiered in 1998, and it became one of the most popular series of its time, serving as a launching pad for its main cast to international stardom. Additionally, its theme song “I Don’t Want To Wait” by Paula Cole also became popular not just among the series’ followers.

In 2018, the cast reunited for the show’s 20th anniversary for Entertainment Weekly’s magazine cover.

The series follows the lives of a close-knit group of friends as they navigate love, friendship, career, and more in the fictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts.

Aside from the aforementioned, the show also features Joshua Jackson as Pacey Witter, Mary-Margaret Humes as Gail Leery, and Nina Repeta as Bessie Potter, among others.
