Politics can cause divisiveness even among family members, which is why Joaquin Domagoso avoids having talks about it with his father, former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, more so now that they’re playing characters in two separate movies which is deemed by many as carrying political colors.

Domagoso plays Yosef, a fictional character in “Ako Si Ninoy,” a film written and directed by Vince Tañada, while Moreno plays Ninoy Aquino in “Martyr or Murderer”.

“He just knows na tama lang talaga na hindi namin pinag-uusapan. We’re family. We’re not supposed to be fighting. Hindi ko talaga aawayin ang papa ko. Matatalo ako. I love him. Why would I take arms against him? Masasaktan ako bago pa masaktan siya,” Domagoso said during the official announcement of the cast of “Ako Si Ninoy” recently.

Domagoso stressed that he’s not into politics, and has no plans of getting into politics at the moment.

“Wala ako sa politika. Wala akong balak magpolitika not unless nakapag-aral na po ako,” he said. (Iam not in politics. I don’t have plans to go into politics unless I study).

Seeking public office, for Domagoso, entails a lot of hard work and study.

“If you really want to be in politics, hindi ka dapat basta-basta tatakbo dahil sikat ka or sikat ang magulang mo (you need not run just because you’re popular, or your parents are popular),” he said.

For him, a Political Science or a Law course will prepare him for a political career.

But should he finish a college course, that is not a guarantee that he will eventually seek public office.

“‘Yung talagang makapagtapos ka (If you really finish a course), then I will go. Only then will I decide pa lang. Hindi ibig sabihin na I will decide agad. (But that does not mean that I will decide immediately),” he said.

“Ako Si Ninoy”, topbilled by actor-singer JK Labajo as the slain Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., is about the intertwining stories of eleven individuals in the modern day.

Also in the cast are Sarah Holmes, Casey Legaspi, Johnrey Rivas, Vean Olmedo, Nicole Laurel, Adelle Ibarrientos-Lim, JM Yosures, Jomar Tañada and Bodjie Pascua. EDV
