Alex Gonzaga commended by Arnold Clavio after public apology: ‘Nakakagaan ng loob’
While some netizens were seemingly unamused by Alex Gonzaga’s public apology which “took so long,” broadcaster Arnold Clavio was all praise to the actress-TV host who he considers a “strong person” for saying sorry.
Gonzaga issued an apology to Allan Crisostomo, the waiter she smeared icing on during her 35th birthday party, saying the incident has been a lesson of “humility and kindness” for her.
Clavio, who earlier called Gonzaga out for “shaming” the waiter, gave his two cents following her apology via his Instagram page on Thursday, Jan. 19. The broadcaster opened his post with the quote, “It takes a strong person to say sorry.”
“Nakakagaan ng loob ang naging mabilis na aksyon ng aktres na si Alex Gonzaga sa waiter na si [Allan] Crisostomo,” he wrote. (It’s a relief that Alex Gonzaga made a swift action on the incident involving waiter Allan Crisostomo.)
Clavio thanked the actress for owning up to her mistake, and pointed out how the incident should serve as a lesson of humility, respect and forgiveness.

Meanwhile, netizens seemed to have varying takes on Gonzaga’s public apology, with some admiring the actress for the gesture and some others stressing how the “damage has been done.”
“Better be late than never say sorry at all. Good move Alex,” one Gina Estrellado Tirol wrote.
“Ang harsh naman ng iba (Some have been very harsh to her). No one is perfect and above the Lord,” a user that goes by the name Lyn Lalamunan Mabognga said. “At least she knows her mistake and apologized [for] it. But your mouths keep on uttering nonsense and foul words much worse than what she had done.”
“Beautifully worded apology. I hope you are sincere in your apology and truly learned your lesson,” said one Kristine Eff.
“What has taken this apology so long? If netizens didn’t call her out, she wouldn’t. Right?” a certain Jane Aikeen Montecillo Arellano-Villaver stated.
“The damage has been done. And you can’t hide the fact that you are truly a brat. And no [good manners and right conduct]!” one Heliver Opsima commented.
“Apology should have been given right away, without requiring the poor fellow to write a public testimony about it. That’s not humility, Ms Gonzaga. That’s damage control,” one Myra Guce commented. “Grow up and stop embarrassing the people around you or even the people remotely associated with you. Use your platform of influence wisely.”
Gonzaga’s husband, Lipa City Councilor Michael “Mikee” Morada, also earlier came to his wife’s defense and said that while there is no excuse for Gonzaga’s actions, she also did not deserve the hate she has been receiving on social media.
Peter Ledesma, the publicist of the Gonzaga family, spoke up on the matter as well and clarified that the said waiter is a “friend” of the actress’ mom, Pinty Gonzaga. /ra
