MANILA, Philippines — The 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has reached its P500 million target in gross sales, said the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday.

“We are delighted to announce that we were able to reach our target gross sales amounting to P500 million, considering that we are still recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,” MMDA chief and MMFF overall chairman Romando Artes said in a statement.

“Indeed, the 2022 MMFF is a certified box-office hit,” he added.

The MMFF featured eight films in cinemas nationwide which was slated to run originally from Dec. 25 to Jan. 7, 2023. The MMDA earlier announced that it had been extended until Jan. 13.

Based on gross sales receipts, the following four films led the eight movies with the most sales: Deleter, Family Matters, Labyu with an Accent, and Partners in Crime.

Meanwhile, Artes also announced in the same statement that the Metro Manila Summer Film Festival would be held on April 1, with its awards night on April 11.

“We will release the deadline of submission of entries as early as we can so that interested producers and filmmakers may be guided accordingly,” Artes stressed.

Much like the MMFF, the Metro Manila Summer Film Festival will run for an 11-day period, from April 8 (Black Saturday) to April 18, in cinemas nationwide. EDV
