MANILA, Philippines—Preschool girls strutting the catwalk in sky high platform shoes, with full-on glamour makeup, swaying their hips like grown women and at times winking at the audience, greeted spectators who gathered at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on Dec. 20 where the grand launch of JAMSAP Entertainment Corp. was held.

The newly launched media production company sprang from the JAMS Artist Production (JAMSAP), which has mounted modeling competitions in different towns and cities all over the country and which holds the national JAMS Top Model contest every year.

Diversifying into a media production company was the logical step for the growing talent and modeling agency, said JAMSAP Entertainment Corp. Head Jojo Flores during a brief media conference at the sidelines of the launch event.

He said that with a pool of aspiring models, actresses, dancers and entertainers from JAMSAP, the new corporation now has a wealth of talents to dig into for whatever entertainment content they may think of. For its first offering, JAMSAP Entertainment Corp. has signed an agreement with the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) for the staging of the next PMPC Star Awards for Television.

The made-for-TV special, the 37th edition of the annual event, will be held at the Winford Manila Hotel and Casino in Manila on Jan. 28. JAMSAP Head Maricar Molina said the show could showcase several of her wards.

Flores said the newly established corporation has already signed up 60 contract artists, from little kids to young adults, with many of them products of the modeling, acting and dance workshops conducted by JAMSAP. They were formally presented at the grand launch, where they showcased their talents and skills.

In what could have been a trade show for prospective clients in the entertainment and advertising industries, where casters, agents and big media players could have been invited, the JAMS contract artists instead performed in front of their loved ones and a few members of the media.

One by one, in pairs and in groups, the JAMS contract artists performed in what appeared to be a talent recital, their numbers eliciting cheers and applause from their respective groups of invitees composed of their relatives and other supporters. The spectators carried blown-up images of the performers’ faces, as well as banners and streamers bearing their names.

The evening culminated in a lengthy parade of JAMS Top Model contestants wearing Filipiniana outfits of varying degrees of creative elements. Many appeared in over-the-top pieces that made it difficult for the models to walk, with many of them tripping on their skirts or due to their excessively high platform shoes. Some appeared to have pulled out off-the-rack pieces or items from their own day-to-day wardrobe.

Flores said JAMSAP Entertainment Corp. will release TV shows and a movie in 2023. It will also dabble in professional sports, with multiple basketball clinics all over the country, which they foresee will produce the next basketball superstars.  /ra
