Dimples Romana on her role as Amanda after MMFF Best Supporting Actress win: ‘A risk worth taken’
Dimples Romana is grateful for her latest achievement as an actress, despite being absent at the 48th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal on Dec. 27.
Romana took home the coveted Best Supporting Actress award for her portrayal of Amanda in the drama film “My Father, Myself,” beating fellow nominees Louise Delos Reyes of “Deleter” and her co-star Tiffany Grey. Her co-actors Grey, Jake Cuenca, Sean de Guzman and Quinn Carrillo accepted the award on her behalf.
The actress took to social media to express her gratitude for her Best Supporting Actress win on Wednesday, Dec. 28.
“Biggest pahabol blessing [emoji] Father God, I feel unworthy and yet you bless me still with so much more than what I feel I deserve. So fitting that Jake, Quinn, Sean and Tiff accepted the award on my behalf because my work as Amanda would not have been as stellar if not for the strong commitment to excellence everyone on set [has] put out for our film,” Romana said in the caption.

The actress also looked back on her role as Amanda, whom she described as someone who “chooses to forgive” despite the pain she went through.
“Amanda was suffering, she was [in pain] and yet she chooses to forgive, to understand BECAUSE SHE LOVES. Love is such a powerful tool to push us all beyond our comfort zones and propel us to heights with which we think we’d never reach,” Romana said. “A risk worth [taking]. A blessing unforeseen, unexpected but definitely EMBRACED.”
Romana hoped that her “My Father, Myself” character would inspire moviegoers to love without any doubts or hesitations.
“Sa lahat ng mga Amanda, na patuloy na nagmamahal at umuunawa, yumayakap sa mga taong mahal natin ng Walang pagtatanong, pagaaalinlangan at panunumbat, anuman ang kasarian natin, ang pagmamahal ay pagmamahal,” she said.
(To all the Amandas who love and understand, embrace their loved ones with no questions, hesitation and incrimination; no matter what gender, love is love.)
“My Father, Myself” also bagged the Best Child Performer (Shawn Niño Gabriel) and Best Float awards at the MMFF awards ceremony. The LGBT film stars Jake Cuenca, Dimples Romana, Sean de Guzman, Tiffany Grey and Quinn Carillo. It is directed by Joel Lamangan. /ra
