For years now, Shaina Magdayao has not been dancing, no thanks to her hypothyroidism problem which made it difficult to display her terpsichorean skills to the hilt. But she has gone back to dancing in “ASAP”, something that she’s very much thankful for.
In a short video she posted on her Instagram, Magdayao shared what it was like to be dancing again.
“I don’t remember being this grateful for a healthy and fit body,” she initially said on her post, adding that a “huuuuge part of my 25 years in the industry is my being a dancer so that makes me an official baby of @asapofficial and @gforce_official .
She started dancing on the ASAP stage when she was 13 and was trained every week by her dance mentor @teachergeorcelle.
“Looking back, it really was a gift, my fate,” she recalled, until she had to give up dancing because she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.
With that, she was left with no choice but to “just focus on being an actress since I NEVER thought I’d be healthy enough to dance again.”
According to a journal published by the National Library of Medicine in the United States, some people with hypothyroidism may have “exercise intolerance”, which means they may have “inadequate cardiovascular support” if they were to do some strenuous activities. Mild exercise, however, were encouraged.
“So thanks to tita winnie, darling darla, ate jas, ate apple hindi ninyo ako sinukuan sa pag tanong: ‘Kailan ka na sasayaw at mag A-ASAP ulit?’ Kahit na ilang years and months in the making ang aking ‘PROMISE’. (no matter if it takes years and months in the making my promise) ETO NA, (Here it is) I’m baaaack!” she said.
Magdayao said that the production’s questions made her ask herself if she really can dance and it her hips and knees can do it.
Magdayao expressed her gratefulness to her “ever supportive GFORCE brothers and sisters (special thanks to my choreographers Myka and Ritz + Kuya Sherwin andddd Chrissian, Iris, Kyle, Jerry) and to my Mentor (then and now at 33 woohooo akalain mo yun, Teach???!) TEACHER GEORCELLE for being ever so encouraging.”
“Grabe. Na miss ko ang alaga ninyo. Pati na din ang confidence ninyo sa akin. Sa inyo talag nanggaling ang lakas ng loob eh,” she said. (It’s great. I missed the way you take care of me. Including your confidence in me. It’s from yoou where I got my will.)
“Gosh. I feel as if a part of me is alive again! THANK YOU FOR WAKING UP THE DANCER IN ME.It is truly an honor to be back on the ASAP stage again,” she said, thanking God for “a healthy body AND stable hormones.”
“May I not mishandle and take these answered prayers for granted. I am humbled. I am grateful. Learning, growing and evolving again,” she added. EDV
