Christopher de Leon, dubbed the “King of Philippine Drama,” will be joining the cast of the upcoming ABS-CBN adaptation of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.”

The veteran actor will be joining Coco Martin, Charo Santos, and the daughter of Fernando Poe Jr., actress Lovi Poe, as seen in a video on Dreamscape Entertainment’s Instagram account on Wednesday, Dec. 14. The project is made in commemoration of FPJ’s legacy on his 18th death anniversary.

“This is going to be a rollercoaster ride especially sa akin (for me),” de Leon said. “This will be a very interesting story dahil ‘yung inspiration ni Direk [Coco Martin], manggagaling kay FPJ (because the inspiration of Coco Martin will come from FPJ himself).”

The upcoming adaptation, however, is not the first time that Martin and de Leon have worked together on a project. The actors previously starred in the 2010 film “Sa’yo Lamang” and 2014 teleserye “Ikaw Lamang,” and de Leon also participated in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” as a guest star in 2016.

Also joining the cast are John Estrada, Mark Lapid, Cherry Pie Picache, and Alan Paule, among others. The project will be directed by Martin and Malu Sevilla, and is slated for a 2023 release at the Kapamilya Channel. Additional details about the exact premiere date and plot are yet to be revealed, as of this writing.

Prior to the adaptation, “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” was originally a 1986 film starring FPJ, Maricel Soriano, Sheryl Cruz, Manilyn Reynes, and Kristina Paner. EDV
