Filipino artists Trisha Denise and LU.ME. teamed up with Singaporean artists KIRI, kotoji and Marian Carmel for the extended play (EP) “My Safe Place, which promotes mental wellness.

The EP, released under ABS-CBN’s label Star Pop and the Singaporean production house AOR Global, features six tracks from the five artists about mental well-being through music, as per a release from ABS-CBN last Monday, Oct. 17.

The project is co-produced by ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo and Star Pop label head Rox Santos. It can be streamed on various digital streaming platforms including Spotify and YouTube.

One of the songs in the EP is Trisha Denise’s “Cracks,” which is about embracing one’s imperfections.

“We think that our pain and hardship make us undeserving of love, but those things brought us to a better version of ourselves. Kahit na may ‘cracks’ tayo (Though we have ‘cracks’), let’s just enjoy the journey,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the song “Surrender” is performed by soul-pop artist and streamer LU.ME, who believes surrendering is a sign of strength instead of weakness.

“Sometimes we feel na mag-isa lang tayo sa mundo but hindi ganun ‘yun (that we are alone in the world, but that is not true). We are all loved,” LU.ME said.

For her part, Marian Carmel relayed her personal struggles in the song “Wish that I Could Tell Me.” She explained that the track is a “letter” to her 19-year-old self after she found out that she suffers from panic disorder.

Other tracks in the EP are KIRI’s “Get Well Soon,” which is about destigmatizing mental illnesses and trauma, and kotoji’s “Survive,” inspired by experiences of the singer’s friends.

It also features the pop rock song “My Safe Place,” which was performed by all five artists. The song is about finding a space that gives comfort and allows oneself to feel safe.  /ra
