Remembering Cherie Gil, Sharon Cuneta tearfully sings ‘Bituing Walang Ningning’ in Australia concert
Sharon Cuneta was not able to hold her emotions back as she sang her hit song “Bituing Walang Ningning” during her concert in Adelaide, Australia, recalling memories of her dear friend, fellow actress Cherie Gil.
Cuneta starred in the movie of the same title with Gil, who died last August 5 due to endometrial cancer, a disease she was diagnosed with last year.
Even as she continued singing, tears were rolling down the cheeks of the Megastar, as seen in a clip of her performance on her Instagram page today, Oct. 16.
“First time to sing ‘Bituing Walang Ningning’ in a concert since my Cherie passed two months and [11] days ago,” she said. “‘Di ko alam paano ko kakantahin kagabi (I did not know how to sing it last night)… but I know somehow that she (Gil) was right beside me.”
When Cuneta was about to sing the chorus part, she paused for a while and said, “You have to help me, please.” The audience then sang with Cuneta — whose voice cracked a few as she tried but failed to hold back tears — while she looked and pointed towards the ceiling.

“Bituing Walang Ningning” was among the countless movies that Cuneta and Gil starred in together. In the movie, Cuneta played Dorina, a fan girl who eventually toppled her singing idol Lavinia, the character portrayed by Gil.
Cuneta earlier remembered Gil by showing a picture frame with a photo of them together, which was the last gift Megastar received from the late actress. EDV
