Jeric Gonzales stays ‘good friends’ with Rabiya Mateo after breakup

Jeric Gonzales opened up about his relationship with ex-girlfriend, beauty queen-actress Rabiya Mateo, and revealed that they are “good friends” and are supportive of each other’s career.
Gonzales spoke about this after he was asked by entertainment reporter Nelson Canlas if the actor and Mateo had reconciled, in an episode of “Updated with Nelson Canlas” podcast last Thursday, Sept. 22.
“After what happened—the controversies and issues—nag-stay kami na friends, good friends,” Gonzales answered. “Ang hirap sabihin na nagkabalikan kasi mas gusto na lang namin sabihin na we’re good friends and we support each other.”
(After what happened—the controversies and issues— we stayed as friends, good friends. It is hard to say that [we] got back together. We prefer to just say that we are good friends and we support each other.)
“Hindi kami ‘yung nag-break na as in wala na talaga, nag-away, gano’n. We want it [to be] private lang, we’re on good terms,” he added. (When we broke up, we did not cut off [each other] or fight. We just wanted it to be private [but] we are on good terms.)
Gonzales also stressed that he and Mateo were able to maintain their friendship because they did not have any huge argument between them. Gonzales added that although they parted ways peacefully, the breakup was still “depressing” for him.
“Wala naman kasi talaga kaming pinag-awayan or pinagtalunan na issue. Siguro priorities lang talaga as of now kasi we’re both busy,” he stated. (We did not argue or have confrontations over an issue. Maybe we just [have our] priorities now since we are both busy.)
“Ang hirap e. Marami talagang taong nakikialam,” he admitted. “Maraming issues na darating sa kanya [at] sa akin, so mas healthy na focus kami sa work pero at the same time, OK naman kami.”
(It was really hard. A lot of people were meddling [in our relationship]. A lot of issues may come our way, so it is healthier if we focus on our work, but at the same time, we are OK.)
Gonzales and Mateo first sparked dating rumors late last year after they were frequently spotted together by fans. The former couple made their relationship public in March, and were speculated to have broken up in June when they unfollowed each other on Instagram. Gonzales and Mateo are following each other again on the said platform as of this writing. /ra
