The “Idol Philippines” named Khimo Gumatay as its season two grand winner after he bested fellow contestants Ryssi Avila and Kice in the final round.
Gumatay garnered 89% of the combined judges’ scores and public votes while Avila and Kice received 49.38% and 45.77% respectively, as seen on the show’s YouTube channel yesterday, Sept. 18.
“Hindi ko alam kung anong sasabihin ko ngayon pero maraming maraming salamat sa inyong lahat. Gusto ko po ulit magpasalamat simula po sa staff ng ‘Idol Philippines’ from utility up to the executives,” Gumatay said.
(I do not know what to say now but thank you so much to all of you. I just want to thank the staff of “Idol Philippines” again, from the utility [personnel] up to the executives.)
“Alam kong malaking responsibilidad ito pero gagawin ko. Ito na ang bagong simula at pagbubutihan ko pa ulit,” he added.
(I know that this is a big responsibility but I will do this. This is a new start and I will do my best again.)
Gumatay impressed the audience by singing the new song “My Time” by Jeremy Glinoga, and Jem Macatuno’s “Bagong Simula.” Gumatay was congratulated by the show’s judges Gary Valenciano, Regine Velasquez, Chito Miranda and Moira Dela Torre, who all gave Gumatay a hug.
Gumatay took home a cash prize amounting to P1 million, a brand new house and lot, and an ABS-CBN music recording contract, among others. JB
