ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — The Misters of Filipinas pageant kicks off its ninth edition with the selection of 20 candidates for this year’s competition.
At the final callback of applicants held at the ballroom of Winford Manila Resort and Casino on Aug. 28, pageant organizer Prime Event Productions Philippines (PEPPS) Foundation Inc. gathered the applicants who hurdled the initial round of online screening for an even more intense scrutiny conducted face-to-face.
Of the haul, 20 applicants successfully made the cut. And as in its previous edition, four other aspirants earned wildcard status which gives them the opportunity to become official candidates after a three-week observation phase.
PEPPS official Aski Pascual told the Inquirer in an interview that the organizers will conduct an evaluation of the four wildcard applicants to see if they will be able to “improve on some aspects needed.” Some of the wildcard contestants may also earn spots in the final roster in the event where an official candidate prematurely exits the competition, he added.
Several other delegates from franchises in the provinces and overseas Filipino communities will fill up the remaining slots in the official roster of candidates. Pascual said the ninth Misters of Filipinas pageant will have a total of 35 contenders, who will vie for several national titles.
The national pageant will select the Philippines’ representatives to the 2023 editions of five international competitions — the homegrown Man of the World contest also mounted by PEPPS, as well as the Mister Model Worldwide, Mister Fitness Model World, Mister Tourism and Culture Universe, and Mister Super Global contests.
The 2022 Misters of Filipinas coronation night will be staged at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Newport World Resorts in Pasay City on Oct. 16. JB
