Janella Salvador reveals scene that made her ‘fall in love’ with Valentina role
Janella Salvador has opened up on her role as Valentina in “Mars Ravelo’s Darna: The TV Series” and revealed the scene that made her “fall in love” with her character.
The actress gave fans a peek at her script, which contains the said dialogue, as seen on her Twitter page yesterday, Aug. 16. This comes shortly after the second episode of the series aired.
The scene featured Valentina’s alter ego Regina Vanguardia exposing the corruption of local government officials in Nueva Esperanza, putting her at odds with the town’s Mayor Zaldy (Simon Ibarra).
“Bunga ito ng korapsyon ng mga nasa matataas na posisyon. Sila ang mga tunay na kriminal! ‘Yun nga lang, sino ba ang huhuli sa mga kriminal? Ang mga pulis? Gusto ba nilang hulihin talaga ang mga ito o kasama rin sila sa nakikinabang?” Regina said in the episode.
(This is due to the corruption of those in high positions. They are the real criminals! But who catches criminals? The police? Do they really want to catch them or do they also benefit from this?)
Article continues after this advertisement“Sino ba ang [pinaglilingkuran] mo? Ang mga simpleng mamamayan na bumoto sa inyo? O ang mga kaibigan mo?” she also asked Zaldy. (Who are you serving? The simple citizens who voted for you? Or your friends?)
Article continues after this advertisementSalvador admitted that the scene made her admire her character as she expressed hope that fans enjoyed the episode as well.
“The first scene we worked on when they had me read for the role of Regina. How can I not fall in love with her character?” she said.

The scene was lauded by netizens on Twitter, who praised the series for making Valentina politically aware and well spoken.
“Oh, to be Atty. Regina. An educated, well-spoken and politically aware person who uses her intelligence and platform to voice out when she knows something is not right. A perfect representation of beauty and brains with a purpose,” one @Jelelamazing said.
