Karen Davila, Gary Valenciano and Kim Chiu were among the celebrities who offered prayers for those affected by the magnitude-7 earthquake that shook Abra and other parts of Luzon earlier today, July 27.

Broadcaster Davila was doing an interview with Negros Oriental Rep. Arnie Teves for ANC’s “Headstart” when she experienced the quake, as seen on her Instagram page. The program took a brief break and when it returned, Davila expressed hope that the public was safe.

“Definitely not your usual Wednesday. Thank you Negros Oriental Representative Arnie Teves for joining me today. Ingat po tayo (Stay safe)!” she said. “Saw initial photos of the damage in Ilocos. Praying everyone is safe.”

Valenciano sympathized with those living in Abra and said that he believed “many will help” given the situation, he stated on his Twitter page.

“To all our fellow kababayans (fellow countrymen) in Abra… my prayers are with you. I pray for your safety and protection. I know it’s a scary situation [you’re] in with all the aftershocks to come… but hang in there!” the singer told them. “The Lord is with you…right there with you. Many will help!”

Chiu admitted that the duration of the earthquake scared her as she showed the chandeliers in her home shaking and swaying on her Twitter page. The actress checked up on her fans, asking them if they felt the earthquake as well.

“Eto lang na video ko sa pagka-over-over ng lindol! Ang tagal and nakakatakot sa lakas ah! Akala ko nasa dagat ako na sobrang ma-alon!” she said. “Kamusta kayo? Naramdaman n’yo din ba sa area n’yo?”

(This is the only video I took during the overly strong earthquake. It took so long and the magnitude was scary. I thought I was at sea with strong waves. How are you? Did you also feel it in your area?)

Actress Anne Curtis, meanwhile, also expressed hope that the public was safe via her Twitter page.

“Ang haba ng earthquake (The earthquake lasted for so long)! Hope everyone’s safe,” she said.

Like Davila, broadcaster Noli de Castro was also doing a live interview for DZMM Teleradyo when the earthquake hit, as seen on DZMM’s Facebook page today. He was talking to Philippine Medical Association president Dr. Maria Minerva Calimag, who was in Ilocos Sur at the time.

Calimag’s video connection was cut off as the earthquake continued during their interview. De Castro felt the quake a few minutes later, and he pointed out that the radio station is far from Ilocos Sur.

“Ano ba ang nangyayari sa daigdig? Baka kailangan ho natin na dagdagan ang ating mga dasal,” he said. “…Sabi niya (Calimag) lumilindol doon tapos sumunod tayo. Ibig sabihin… malakas ‘yun.”

(What is happening with the world? Maybe we need to pray more… She said there was an earthquake there, then it reached us. That means… it was strong.)

The magnitude-7 earthquake that shook some parts of Luzon earlier today centered two kilometers northeast of Langilang, Abra, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.

The death toll related to the quake has reached five as of 5:08 p.m. today, based on data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.  /ra
