Apart from celebrity fashion photographer BJ Pascual, rising singer-songwriter Denise Julia is also voicing her grievances against content creator Killa Kush (real name Acushla Obusan), with a threat to file charges.
The issue stemmed from Kush’s claim at her podcast that Denise Julia had come four hours late to their scheduled podcast session, leading to operational delays and additional expenses. Kush said this in the same podcast where she asked Pascual, her guest, who he thought was the worst celebrity he has ever worked with. Pascual then replied that it was the up-and-coming OPM artist, who he called “unprofessional” when her camp allegedly reneged on their scheduled photoshoot.
On Christmas Day, Kush took to her Instagram stories to express her “devastation” over how her recent podcast episode with Pascual sparked controversy after they aired their experience with Denise, sharing the context and screenshots of her conversation with the singer and her team about their past collaboration.
“It’s truly devastating how this has played out. I could play the receipts game all day long with all our projects since 2022, but it’s literally Christmas day. As a collaborator, I’ve already spent 400K mounting her first album launch event with no down payment (and had to fulfill everything in 4 days) then got paid over a month after,” she wrote, sharing more details on the financial damage their previous podcast collaboration generated.
As Kush detailed the effort and expenses that she supposedly shelled out for Denise, she emphasized that airing her side of the story is the attempt to open the conversation about professionalism.
“As a host, my questions and comments on the podcast were never meant to shame anyone but rather to open up the conversation on challenges in the creative industry. I hope this discussion leads to more accountability and professionalism. My focus is to continue sparking meaningful conversations and challenging minds,” she stated, adding that she no longer wants to dwell on dropping more screenshots.
After her statement, Denise took to X (formerly Twitter) to warn Kush about pursuing legal action, as she described the latter’s statements as “twisted narrative.”
“Hope you can back up all that when I see you in court,” Denise began. “‘Check her stories’ and it’s all twisted narrative as usual with business that was between her and a label team; receipts are just her trash talking behind me and my best friend.”
Denise alleged instances of unprofessionalism on Kush’s part, including late payments for talent fees, exploitative use of her name and image for promotional purposes, and even inappropriate behavior during their initial encounters.
“Bottles for me” when my name and pics were overused for engagement in all her events and until now in her brand’s highlights, was paid 3k for hosting but a table costs 6k, asked to make out with me during the first clubbing night tgt, got paid late for a 3k and 10k TF, trash talks people in front of us but puts a smile on her face when she sees them, talking about love & light after milking my issue for a hate train, I could go on but I’ll save that for court,” she concluded her post.
The “b.a.d.” singer also shared a private conversation between her and Kush, stressing her intent to take the issue to court.
“Lols. Biglang bait (sudden change of attitude),” she captioned the screenshot.
