Lorin Gutierrez would like broken families to draw hope from her and her sister Venice’s reunion with their dad Yilmaz Bektas, stressing that it is possible to mend strained relationships.
Lorin documented their 12-day Turkey trip which she showed in a vlog on her YouTube channel yesterday, July 18. During their stay, Lorin and Venice visited tourist spots, went on a beach trip, and had several meal dates with their Turkish family.
Lorin also spoke about the kind words she has been receiving from the public while also addressing those who are giving negative opinion over the said reunion.
“I see a lot of comments online of people [who] kind of talk in a way that doesn’t reflect the fact that this entire journey has actually something to do with real life people,” she said. “[We are] not a fan fiction or a movie where you can watch and comment from afar as if you know everything or as if it is so simple. It’s really not black and white like that.”
“If you can leave hate comments on any other piece of content that I produce and you can say anything you want about the other aspects of my life, but when it comes to this please be careful and sensitive of what you comment because this is possibly the most monumental moments of my life this far,” she added. “It is intimidating to put a personal aspect of me out there.”
She then spoke about the “main motivation” she had for sharing their journey, which is to remind those in the same situation as her that it is possible to patch things up despite their hurtful past.
“So if there’s anyone out there and one of your parents or one of your family members is not in your life and you guys are not on the best of terms, I want you to know that it is possible to heal those relationships. It is possible to move forward, to grow even when it feels like it’s impossible,” Lorin added. “Obviously there was a lot of hurt for the last 15 years, but my mindset is ‘The past is the past’ and there’s really nothing we can do to alter it.”
Lorin and Venice’s reunion with Bektas was first shared to the public by their mom Ruffa, who said that the reunion “took patience and a whole lot of faith” but was “worth the wait.” /ra
