MANILA, Philippines — Luis Daniel Galvez of Cuba was proclaimed Mister Supranational 2022 in ceremonies staged at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheater in Nowy Sacz, Malopolska, Poland, on July 16 (July 17 in Manila).
The global tilt was staged a day after the culmination of the counterpart female contest Miss Supranational where Lalela Mswane of South Africa became the first woman from her country to grab the crown.
Galvez bested 33 other aspirants in the sixth edition of the Mister Supranational competition to inherit the title from Varo Vargas of Peru. Both Vargas and Mswane were part of the “panel of experts” who chose the winners.
Settling for the first runner-up spot was Matthew Gilbert from Indonesia, while Leonidas Amfilochios from Greece was second runner-up.
Moises Peñaloza from Mexico and Heriberto Rivera from Puerto Rico rounded up the winners’ circle as third and fourth runners-up, respectively.
The Philippines’ RaÉd Al-Zghayér, a flight attendant based in Cebu, finished in the Top 20.
No Filipino representative has ever bagged the Mister Supranational title. The Miss World Philippines organization currently holds the national franchise for the male tilt, and is responsible for selecting the country’s delegate to the annual international competition.
Al-Zghayér was chosen from a casting call conducted earlier this year for the Mister World Philippines pageant. The national organization was supposed to hold a male competition for 2022, but decided instead to appoint representatives to the Mister World and Mister Supranational contests this year. JB
