Angelica Panganiban appears to be frustrated with the spam texts she has been receiving recently, as she pointed out the amount of cellphone numbers she had blocked because of the messages.
The actress gave fans a look at the list of numbers she has blocked from her phone as she raised a theory on how to get rid of the spam texts, as seen on her Twitter page yesterday, July 13.
“What are the chances na kapag bago na ang phone number mo, hindi ka na matetext ng mga nagsasabing ‘beshie [it’s] your lucky day’ or ‘you are now hired’ or ‘we are hiring’? Napakadami ko nang na-block,” she lamented.
(What are the chances that when you change your phone number, you will not be texted by those saying, “beshie it’s your lucky day” or “you are now hired” or “we are hiring”? I have blocked so many of them.)

This led some netizens, particularly on Twitter, to express their frustration over the fake job offers.
One @shalalamie answered Panganiban’s question on changing her number, saying she still gets the spam messages.
“Bagong number na ‘ko since nawala phone ko. Asawa ko lang may alam pa lang. Pero jusko sa inaraw araw mahina na 3 spam messages,” she said.
(I got a new number since I lost my phone. Only my husband knows. But my God, it still gets a minimum of three spam messages daily.)

“There is not a single day that I did not receive offers from unknown numbers. This never happened before pandemic,” another netizen, @clintoncloud09, said.
There is not a single day that I did not receive offers from unknown numbers. This never happened before pandemic. Is it with contract tracing forms, or online shopping platforms :/

“Ganyan na ren ang list ko [ng] naka-blocked pero may nakakapasok pa ren,” one @iamgrce23 told Panganiban. (My blocked list looks like that too but I still get the texts.)

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) recently directed telecommunication companies to warn the public against spam text messages offering fake job offers, leading to widespread cybercrime. This has become a recurring concern in the Philippines, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.
Last year, Malacañang called the wave of spam texts a “cause of concern” since it leads to a violation in subscribers’ privacy.
Meanwhile, Panganiban announced last March that she is pregnant with her first child with her non-showbiz boyfriend Gregg Homan. The couple revealed last month that they are having a baby girl, then went to Thailand for their first trip abroad as a couple. /ra
