Lady Gaga released the official music video of her song “Hold My Hand,” part of the soundtrack to the long-awaited “Top Gun” sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Gaga sings her lungs out in an aircraft military base while footage from the new film and clips from the 1986 “Top Gun” flashes, as seen in the music video on her YouTube channel last Saturday, May 7. Tom Cruise, who reprises his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, is featured in the video.

The American singer-actress spoke about the songwriting process and admitted that it took her years “perfecting and trying to make it ours,” as per her Instagram page on April 28.

“I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other — a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes,” she said. “This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time. I’ve wanted you to hear it for so long.”

In a separate post, Lady Gaga also noted that aside from the movie, she dedicates her song to those people who feel like they are never going to be OK.

“When you feel lonely, sad, removed from the world, far away from yourself and others — [hold my hand]. One day you may even be strong enough to hold your own,” the singer stated. “I love you with my whole heart [and] for all the years I’ve been blessed to sing, write songs, produce and perform for you, thank you.”

“Top Gun: Maverick,” directed by Joseph Kosinski, tells the story of Maverick and his fighter pilot buddies three decades after the blockbuster original. The film, which is set to premiere on May 24, was initially scheduled to open in 2020 but was repeatedly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. JB
