Chesca Garcia got candid about the in vitro fertilization (IVF) experience that she and her husband Doug Kramer went through and why she set aside her plans of having a new baby after three failed attempts at the procedure.

The celebrity mom opened up on what she felt when she underwent IVF during her guesting at the morning talk show “Magandang Buhay,” as seen on ABS-CBN’s YouTube channel yesterday, March 31.

“In your mind actually, when they put the embryo, you are already pregnant. You are just waiting for it to grow and become a baby talaga (really become a baby), so I think it’s very hard for women who are doing IVF and expecting because you have a two-week wait window,” she said.

Garcia recalled that during her third attempt at IVF, she was really hoping that she would get pregnant, but the procedure was unsuccessful.

“My last one, my third one, I was really hoping that I was pregnant because I actually missed my period. When I did the pregnancy test, I was not pregnant. But I already know the gender of my baby and everything, so it’s a very hard journey for anyone who’s doing IVF simply because may wait period (there’s a wait period),” she narrated. “Kapag nag-fail siya, may invested emotions ka kasi (When it fails, you have already invested emotions).”

When asked by host Melai Cantiveros whether she and Kramer would try IVF for the fourth time, Garcia admitted that she still wants a baby, but she also wants to “be obedient to the Lord.”

“Sometimes things don’t go as planned because He has a good reason for it, and I also want to be an obedient daughter and follower. I still have that longing you know, but for now I’m going to be setting it aside,” she added.

Garcia then talked about how the unsuccessful IVF attempts affected her family, especially her kids. She recounted an instance when her son Gavin refused to hug her because he was “just really hoping to be a kuya.”

Host Regine Velasquez also related that she had gone through IVF herself, adding that fathers may feel bad about the experience as well, but could express their sadness in a different way from mothers—a sentiment that Garcia agreed with.
