Nadine Lustre calls for preservation of Siargao’s Secret Beach amid planned bridge construction
Nadine Lustre spoke up on the preservation of Secret Beach in Siargao as she opposed the planned construction of a bridge that could “totally destroy” the area.
In her Instagram Stories yesterday, March 3, the actress lamented the construction of the bridge that would affect what she considers one of the most “peaceful” spots in Siargao.
“Secret Beach is [definitely] one of the most peaceful spots on the island. It makes me so sad to know that people are planning to build a bridge that will totally destroy that area,” she said.
Lustre pointed out that the said construction could destroy mangroves and sea grass, the natural habitat of various species living in the area. She added that the homes of locals may also be destroyed and jobs could be lost because of the bridge.
Lustre also noted that residents of Siargao are yet to fully recover from the devastation brought by typhoon Odette in December, and hoped that the concerns of typhoon victims would be prioritized instead.

“Improvement isn’t always about pouring concrete. If we’re all respectful and protective towards the environment, our lives including every other living thing that coexists with us will improve greatly,” she stressed.
Lustre also called on locals to attend a meeting about the said construction, scheduled earlier today, March 4. The actress has not given further details about the said meeting as of this writing.
It can be recalled that in December 2021, Lustre called for the inclusion of environmentalism in the school curriculum. She believes doing so would help kids grow up to be “aware and compassionate with everything that coexists with us.”
Lustre has been staying in Siargao for a few months at a time over the past year. She spent her Christmas last year assisting in relief operations on the island. She was also recently spotted at a feeding program with her rumored boyfriend, Christophe Bariou.
The actress has not released a statement confirming if she is indeed in a relationship with Bariou, though she showed a cozy moment with him last January. /ra
