Maris Racal opened up on how she and her boyfriend Rico Blanco settle things between them, noting that their age gap has a “positive impact” on their relationship.
Racal pointed out that their age difference allows them to learn from each other’s experiences, as seen in a virtual media conference of the series “The Goodbye Girl” on Dreamscape’s Facebook page yesterday, Feb. 14.
“Meron talaga siyang (age gap) positive impact kasi unang-una sa age namin, may iba’t ibang level kami ng experience sa buhay, sa mundo, so nashe-share namin ‘yun sa isa’t isa. And hindi kasi nagma-matter sa ‘min kung sino ‘yung dominant, sino ‘yung recessive,” she said.
(The age gap really has a positive impact because first and foremost, with our age, we have different levels of experiences in our lives, in the world, which we get to share with each other. And for us, it doesn’t matter who’s dominant and who’s recessive.)
The actress then talked about how they avoid keeping tabs on each other and how it’s part of their effort to “keep each other around.”
“Pinag-usapan namin lahat and hindi kami nagke-kwenta kung sino ‘yung mas magaling magbigay ng love,” she stated. “It’s just that, mahal lang talaga namin ang isa’t isa and we just want to keep each other around.”
(We talk about everything and we do not point out who’s better at giving love. It’s just that, we really love each other and we just want to keep each other around.)
When asked about dealing with arguments, Racal spoke about how she and Blanco settle things calmly by listening to what each of them has to say.
“Ang ironic nitong sabihin pero natutuwa ako sa mga arguments namin kasi walang sigawan na nangyayari. Sinasabi ko ‘yung nasa puso (ko), kung saan ako nanggagaling tapos siya rin, tapos tinatahi namin — ‘dito tayo nagkamali, naiintindihan na kita,’ gano’n lang ‘yung away namin,” she added.
(This is ironic to say but I find our arguments funny because there’s no shouting involved. I say what’s in my heart, where I’m coming from and he does the same then we connect it — “We made a mistake, I understand you now,” that’s how our arguments go.)
Racal also stressed the importance of “constant communication” in a relationship, adding that being open to each other would prevent arguments in the future.
Racal confirmed her relationship with Blanco in May last year. Racal and Blanco star alongside Angelica Panganiban, JC de Vera and Barbie Imperial, among others, in “The Goodbye Girl.” JB
