Mavy Legaspi recounts throwing tennis games because of celeb background
Mavy Legaspi spoke about his struggles of growing up with celebrity parents, which includes him deliberately losing his tennis matches to avoid being tagged as a cheater.
Legaspi recalls how he didn’t have the confidence to win back then because of remarks from people linking his achievement to his parents’ influence. This he shared in an interview with his onscreen love team partner Kyline Alcantara and actress Bea Alonzo, as seen on Alcantara’s YouTube channel yesterday, Feb. 7.
“I was competing in a high level of tennis and of course there’s always that saying na nangdadaya ako (I’m a cheater) because of my background, because of my family — when I win it was always under the table, something like that,” he said. “I’d always want to lose. When I reach a certain round in the tournament, I’d lose on my own because I didn’t have the confidence to win it and actually own it.”
Legaspi then opened up about his relationship with his father and also tennis coach at the time, actor Zoren Legaspi, adding how he experienced tough love from Zoren.
“We’ve always had disagreements. My childhood growing up was always disagreements with my dad. I was always looking for approval but I never got that until I reached my pre-teen age, that’s when I said, ‘This is tough love, he loves me,'” Mavy stated.

Mavy stars in GMA Network’s teleserye “I Left My Heart in Sorsogon,” alongside Alcantara, Heart Evangelista, Richard Yap and Paolo Contis. The TV series is set to air its finale episode next week. JB
