LOOK: Catriona Gray dazzles as ’80s screen siren in birthday shoot
Catriona Gray channeled 1980s “screen siren” vibes as she paid tribute to various Filipino artists and performers in a photo shoot for her 28th birthday.
The Miss Universe 2018 titleholder looked stunning in an embellished silver couture dress and black-and-white ensemble by Neric Beltran, as well as a magenta silk dress by Al Rey Rosano, as shown on her Instagram page Thursday, Jan. 6. The portraits were taken by photographer Andrea Beldua at the Manila Metropolitan Theater.
Each look is a tribute to Filipino performers who have graced the stage of the theater. Gray’s “screen siren” outfit, in particular, was a nod to the film “Bituing Walang Ningning.”
“The Screen Siren. In the latter years of the Met, it housed several award shows for television and films. This look echoes the ’80s red carpet glamour reinterpreted as a nod to the movie ‘[Bituing] Walang Ningning’ with its finale scene filmed at the Metropolitan Theater,” she said.
Gray’s birthday shoot was held in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, of which she has been an ambassador for almost three years. Aside from being a “screen queen,” she also got to dress up as a “carnival queen” and a prima ballerina.

Gray opted to celebrate her birthday quietly with her boyfriend, actor Sam Milby. She then thanked those who greeted her on her special day via her Instagram page yesterday, Jan. 7.
“Thank you to everyone for the birthday love,” she addressed fans. “It was a quiet little celebration due to the situation here in Philippines, but all the messages and love made my day extra special.” /ra
