Edu Manzano could not help but laugh while recounting the time he had to go to a class of director-writer Joey Reyes and wearing only a towel.
The actor looked back at the experience in his interview with his son, TV host Luis Manzano, as seen on the latter’s YouTube channel last Tuesday, Jan. 4. Luis brought up the topic when he mentioned that his father was once a varsity player for De La Salle University.
(Trivia: Dad was a varsity [player] before in La Salle… Did you know that daddy was the first ever to enter a classroom in only a towel? His teacher that time was Direk Joey Reyes.)
Luis then quipped that his father might have enjoyed showering after his varsity practice, as he appeared to have lost track of time.
Kailangan niya (Edu) kasi varsity, eh napasarap ‘yung ligo [ni dad] after practice,” he said.
(Direk Joey said that if he got late one more time, he had to drop the class. Dad needed it because he was in the varsity, but he enjoyed showering after practice.)
Edu continued the story, relating that he had to run to the classroom in only a towel because he could lose his scholarship if he failed to show up to class on time.
“Nag-ring na ‘yung bell… Three units din ‘yun, malalagot ‘yung scholarship,” he told Luis.
(The bell rang… That was three units, I could lose my scholarship. So I was forced to come up to class and run in just a towel.)
Reyes did not appear to be amused by this, since he asked Edu back then if he was joking around.
Tatlong araw akong nagkasakit.”
(As soon as I came in, Joey said, “What are you, a comedian?” I said, “No.” He said, “Okay, sit down.” I sat in my chair and he told me, “No, sit at the other chair near the air conditioner.” I sat there the entire class. I was sick for three days.)
Edu made headlines recently, after confirming his relationship with his “Marry Me, Marry You” co-star Cherry Pie Picache. The two later revealed that they had dated 20 years before and had only recently rekindled their romance. /ra
