Derek Ramsay cool, hot in equal parts

DEREK Ramsay

Derek Ramsay is cool and hot in equal parts. He was in high spirits at his contract signing as ambassador of sports channel AKTV (on IBC 13).

It was heartwarming to see how close Derek is to his parents, who were with him that day. They were ribbing each other like barkada.

The hunk has not lost the kid in him which endears him to the public. Derek is one heartthrob who’s not full of himself because he’s got a heart for others.

FEATURED STORIES

I immensely enjoyed my tete-a-tete with the “Crush ng Bayan” Read on:

What are your thoughts on being tapped as the sports ambassador of AKTV?

One of the reasons I decided to move to TV5 is its promise to support what I love, sports, so how could I say no? I’m wired that way. I’m excited to do Amazing Race and to cover the Olympics in London. It’s my longtime dream to compete in the Olympics. For now, I’m happy to represent the country in the World Cup Frisbee Competition.

How true are reports that your talent fee in TV5 is an obscene amount of money?

What people don’t know is, the offers were not that far apart. But it’s nowhere near P500 million that people are saying. Nakakahiya naman ’cause I feel I don’t deserve that kind of money. Wala pa ako sa level ng career ko where I can demand that much. But I would be lying if I say that money was not a consideration when I decided to move. Siyempre, business din ito. But there’s more to it than that. I would also like to do teleseryes eventually. I’m not gonna turn my back on acting.

Do you think being single now makes you more bankable as an actor?

I don’t think so, because even when I was still with Angelica (Panganiban), I kept my work and relationship separate. It doesn’t matter what my status is, I always make sure I deliver as an actor.

Is there any hope for reconciliation with Angelica?

It was my longest and most serious relationship. I felt she was the one. Unfortunately things didn’t work out the way we wanted. This is probably the first time I’ll say that I’ll leave the door open.

The bedroom door, too?

All the doors, even the windows I will leave open for Angel. When I’m in love, I’m a one-woman man. Actually late bloomer ako. I had my first girlfriend at 18.

Does that mean you’re not yet tired yet of being a bachelor at large?

It can get lonely being alone, but my passion for sports keeps me occupied.

Do you want to fall in love again anytime soon, or are you still healing?

I want to focus on my work, on myself muna. Before, I couldn’t make a decision based on just how I felt; I always had to consider Angel’s feelings, too.

What’s your dream project?

A movie with Ate Vi. If she approves of the script, I don’t even need to see it anymore.

You never leave home without your favorite rosary. What’s the significance?

Ever since a nun in Lipa (Batangas) gave me this rosary, good things have been happening to me. I was walking around the church after praying when a sister approached me and said, “Para sa ’yo itong rosary na ’to. Ginawa ko para sa ’yo.” Even when I’m asleep, suot ko ’to or when I’m playing, it’s in my pocket. It fell off once, when I’d  had too many beers in Boracay, but it found its way back to me. Whenever problems arise, I just hold this rosary and pray and, before I know it, solved na lahat. I even had a tattoo patterned after the rosary in my arm, That’s how important it is to me.

How do you like to be remembered?

As someone who respects everybody and loves to live life making people happy.

This June, Pinoys will also have a chance to strut their stuff as ABS-CBN localizes the worldwide hit franchise in “The X Factor Philippines” with KC Concepcion as host and Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Charice and Pilita Corrales sitting on the judges’ panel. Time to do a Jessica!
