Kris Aquino, Angel Locsin extend help to typhoon Odette victims in Mindanao

Kris Aquino and fellow actress, Angel Locsin, have worked together to give aid to those affected by super typhoon Odette in Mindanao.

Aquino, who is currently on a vacation with her fiancé Mel Sarmiento, stressed that she did not forget about the victims of the typhoon while showing the rain outside her room on her Instagram page yesterday, Dec. 19.

“Ayoko pong isipin ninyo na dedma ako sa pinagdadaanan ng mga kapwa nating Pilipino dahil sa napakalakas at bagsik ng bagyong Odette. Hindi na po ako magdedetalye pero non-stop ang communication ko sa mga kaibigan kung paano makakatulong,” she said, noting that she has a friend in Mindanao who will distribute her donations.

Aquino then added that she has been working with Locsin in initiatives to assist people affected by calamities, even in the past.

“Matagal na kaming tandem ni [Angel Locsin] ‘pag ganitong may kalamidad at araw-araw kaming nag-uusap kung paano ba makakatulong,” she told fans. (Me and Angel Locsin have been a tandem for a long time whenever there’s a calamity and we talk every day about how to help.)

The actress-TV host commended presidential candidates Sen. Manny Pacquiao and Vice President Leni Robredo for working together amid the crisis. Aquino also urged the public to not lose hope despite hardships.

“Sana ‘wag tayong mawalan ng pag-asa dahil pabangon pa lang, knock out na naman. Bawal ang sumuko dahil hindi tayo pababayaan ng magbi-birthday sa Dec. 25,” she said.

(I hope we don’t lose hope because we were just about to get up but we’re knocked out again. We can’t give up because the one who will celebrate his birthday on Dec. 25 will not forsake us.)

Super typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) made its first landfall in the Philippines on Siargao island last Thursday afternoon, Dec. 16. It devastated the regions of Visayas and Mindanao over the past few days.

The death toll caused by the typhoon has risen to 208, after the 76 initially reported. Meanwhile, about 52 people are still missing as of writing, according to the national police. JB
