Maris Racal did not give up on her right to vote these coming elections as she endured lining up at 2:30 a.m.—not once, but ttwice—to register as a voter.
The actress narrated her experience in getting registered through a TikTok video yesterday, Sept. 21. She recounted how she waited at a Commission on Elections (Comelec) site for about six hours only to find out she had waited at the wrong registration lane.
“Pumila ako nang mga 2:30 a.m. Sobrang nagmadali ako,” she said. “Pang-number 24 ako, pero noong 8 a.m. nalaman ko na maling district pala ang pinilahan ko.”
(I waited in line at around 2:30 a.m. I was in such a hurry. I was 24th in line, but by 8 a.m., I found out I had lined up at the wrong district.)
Racal added there were no slots left to register at her district on that day so she decided to go home instead. Despite the incident, the actress lined up at the correct Comelec site at 2:30 a.m. the following day, and was finally able to complete her voter’s registration.
“Sa lahat ng gustong magparehistro maaga dapat kayong dumating. Mayroon pa tayong few days left so magparehistro na kayo guys,” she encouraged fans.
(To those who want to get registered, come early. We still have a few days left, so get registered.)

word of the day: district #fyp #registertovote
Racal earlier expressed hope that the Comelec would extend voter registration in the country, pointing out that there are only limited slots at sites near her.
There are more than five million new voters in the country as of Sept. 16, as per Comelec. This is double the 1.5 to two million new voters expected by the agency.
Given that the target number of new registrants has been reached, the Comelec is not inclined to extend the voter registration period. However, some registration sites have extended their hours and opened on Saturdays and holidays.
Voter registration will continue until Sept. 30. /ra
