Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach gave fans a look at some reimagined versions of Filipino clothing as she modeled for the fashion magazine Vogue Italia.
The beauty queen posed for several looks that were weaved by Lih’han Di Immipugo of Ifugao, as seen on her Instagram page yesterday, Aug. 25. She donned various outfits including a metallic-colored bodysuit, a red-and-gold vest and some traditional Filipino headgear.
Vogue Italia explained yesterday that the photoshoot was “inspired by the Afrofuturism of the Black Panther,” referring to the 2018 Marvel film starring Chadwick Boseman. The fashion editorial envisions what the Philippines’ style would be like if indigenous cultures had not been affected by foreigners.
“A glimpse at ‘Indigenous Futurism.’ For me, this is Philippine indi-GENIUS!” Wurtzbach said. “This is a look at our culture into the future: of what could have been, and what it could still be.”
