The JC Cares Foundation team recently visited vendors with disabilities in Las Piñas to celebrate with them the 43rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week at the Aguilar Sports Complex.

The negative economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have taken their toll on most of Filipinos for more than a year since the crisis began.

Part of the population has somewhat recovered as the government aggressively rolled out its vaccination program in different parts of the country, contributing significantly to slowly reviving the economy.

However, some are still struggling.

Among them are the modest and hardworking vendors with disabilities of Las Piñas City, who are among the hardest hit by the pandemic. Most of them were forced to permanently close down their small businesses because of the global crisis.

JC Cares Foundation Inc. was swift to answer the call for support.

The foundation believes that every person has the right to have equal opportunity in life, regardless of disability. This is why it is committed to helping fellow Filipinos, especially those who are affected by the pandemic, in whatever way it can.

This time foundation members went to Barangay Pilar Village in Las Piñas to join the celebration of the 43rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week with this year’s theme “Kaunlaran ng mga Pilipinong may Kapansanan, Isulong sa Gitna ng Pandemya.”

There they provided relief packs, among other things, to some 70 handicapped vendors.

The team members — who observed all the proper health protocols — were moved on learning the various type of disabilities — orthopedic impairment, hearing loss, visual impairment, cerebral palsy, psychosocial problems, among others. But despite being handicapped, they had remained resilient amid the pandemic.

The foundation gave away essential wellness and hygiene packs (composed of vitamins, alcohol, hand soap, and sanitizers), personal grooming kits, food packs, and other essential items that will help the vendor combat the ill effects of the pandemic.

The event was held at the Aguilar Sports Complex and was filled with excitement as both the JC Cares Foundation team and its beneficiaries eagerly awaited the distribution of the relief packages.
