APO Hiking Society’s Jim Paredes and Boboy Garovillo honored late President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III with a new song as they marked the 40th day since his death.

Paredes and Garovillo’s song, aptly titled “Noy,” premiered alongside the online program “Salamat PNoy: Alaala at Alay ng Musikang Pinoy” held last night, Aug. 2.

In “Noy,” the two OPM icons remember their old friend as they express their grief over his death and not being able to attend his funeral, while also celebrating Aquino’s life and legacy.

“Kamakailan, ating nabalitaan na pumanaw na ang ating kaibigan / Ako’y nabigla, nalungkot at napaluha / kasama ng milyong napaluksa,” Paredes sings in the music video of “Noy,” which was seemingly shot at the duo’s own homes.

“Hindi ako nakapunta sa lamay niya / Kay daming bumalik na alaala / Ang buhay na inalay niya para sa ating bayan / Nasayang, nawaldas sabi ng ilan,” Garovillo continues.

The two emphasized in the song that Aquino’s goodness will not be wasted, as they urge the public to not forget about the country’s 15th President.

“My humble tribute to a great man,” Paredes said of the song, which he wrote and composed himself.

The livestreamed tribute is a joint production of nongovernment organization Kaya Natin!, Radyo Katipunan and Bayanihan Musikahan.

The event was hosted by Paredes and Leah Navarro, who were also joined by OPM artists Agot Isidro, Audie Gemora, Bituin Escalante, Celeste Legaspi, Debonair District, Dingdong Dantes, Ebe Dancel, Enchong Dee, Erik Santos, Frankie Pangilinan, Gary Valenciano, Iza Calzado, John Arcilla, Mike Villegas, Mitch Valdes, Noel Cabangon, Ogie Alcasid, Radioactive Sago Project, Regine Velasquez, Ryan Cayabyab Singers, and The Company.  /ra
