Johnny Manahan, also known in the industry as Mr. M, is now officially a Kapuso and has been welcomed by GMA Artist Center. He left ABS-CBN in late 2020.

“It’s official! Meet our newest Kapuso, Mr. Johnny Manahan,” the network announced through its Facebook page today, July 13. GMA’s announcement was accompanied by a greeting for the veteran director.

“Welcome to GMA, Mr. M!” the greeting stated.

Manahan’s transfer was first teased on GMA Network’s Facebook page yesterday, July 12.

“A pillar in Philippine entertainment is making a move,” the teaser stated through a poster, where the letter “M” was written in stylized letters.

Manahan has been in the entertainment industry for 50 years. Aside from serving as a director, he also co-founded ABS-CBN’s talent management arm Star Magic.

He left ABS-CBN last year, following the rejection of the network’s franchise renewal, and went on to direct TV5’s now-defunct musical variety show “Sunday Night Live” and the noontime show “Lunch Out Loud.”

Manahan’s transfer comes after actress Bea Alonzo also signed a contract with the Kapuso network, after about 20 years as an ABS-CBN talent.  /ra
