The Juans vocalist Carl Guevarra revealed that he has been living with alopecia areata, a disorder that results in hair loss.

Guevarra explained his condition to his fans by showing photos of his bald spots while he received injections on his head, as seen on his Twitter page on Sunday, June 20.

“Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition where my immune system attacks my own hair follicles,” he said, adding that there is no known cure for it apart from anti-inflammatory drugs like steroids.

“No one probably loves bald patches, but you are lovable even with these patches. My hair is a part of who I am but it does not define my worth,” Guevarra said.

He also opened up about the physical, mental and psychological effects of alopecia, urging the public to be kind to those who are suffering from the condition.

“More than the physical effect, the mental exhaustion and psychological trauma greatly [affect] patients with this condition. For we do not know when it will appear or go away,” he stated.

Guevarra disclosed that he was first diagnosed with alopecia back in 2016 and the condition recurred in September of last year.

“Not only are injections painful, [but] the overall treatment (creams, topical [medicines and] diet requirements) are hella expensive,” he lamented.

Despite his condition, Guevarra remains optimistic and told his fans that he will inform them once he is fully healed. He also addressed those who have the same condition as him.

“[Life] goes on, I’m going to keep doing what God has called me to do. If you have alopecia areata, I see you, I feel you, you’re not alone and we hope together for healing!” he said.

The Juans is a five-piece pop-rock band known for the songs “Hindi Tayo Pwede,” “Itutulog Na Lang” and “Hatid.” The band made it to Billboard’s Top 10 Next Big Sound chart last February. JB
