Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, taking note that it has been a year since the pandemic hit the country, spoke up that people should demand for a “better system,” while also acknowledging the rise of community pantries and what they reflect.

“For me, the community pantry is a really good initiative,” she said when a fan asked her about the matter on her Twitter page yesterday, April 27. She added that the effort is “proof of the undying spirit of Bayanihan.”

“It’s been a year since the pandemic hit and everyone is just trying their best to survive,” she said. “We can and we should demand a better system.”

Wurtzbach urged her fans to extend help and to stay home if they can. She also encouraged them to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible.

Community pantries started as a project by Quezon City resident Ana Patricia Non. The initiative began as a small bamboo cart in Maginhawa Street, Teacher’s Village East and has since been replicated in different parts of the country. JB
