After getting cast in animated series “Trese,” actresses Liza Soberano and Shay Mitchell have been reimagined as the Filipino komiks heroine.
Black-and-white illustrations of the stars in Alexandra’s trademark trench coat were posted on the graphic novel’s official Facebook fan page today, March 17. The sleek sketches were by no other than “Trese” artist Kajo Baldisimo.
Mitchell, a Filipino Canadian actress, will do the English dub, while Soberano will voice the Filipino version of the show. Their casting was announced last March 8, in time for International Women’s Day.
Filipino American storyboard artist Jay Oliva will executive-produce and direct the series. He is no stranger to female-led stories, with credits that include 2017’s “Wonder Woman” and animated series “The Legend of Korra.”
“Trese,” written by Budjette Tan, chronicles Alexandra Trese’s adventures as she solves mysteries that involve characters based on Philippine mythology and folklore.
It is set to premiere this year on streaming service Netflix. /ra
