Denise Laurel lamented the continuous rise in COVID-19 cases, after over a year of lockdown was imposed on the country in an attempt to fight the pandemic.
The actress also urged the public to stay at home as much as possible, sharing that she has already lost seven people she knows due to the disease, as seen on Instagram yesterday, March 16.
“Anybody else’s heart breaking with all the new cases of [COVID-19]? Please for the sake of the people that love [you], [you] love and for yourself please don’t go out unless [you] really really have to,” Laurel stressed.
“[I] also understand that we have to work so again unless it’s necessary, stay in,” she added.
“[Praying] for everyone and all the families that have lost someone… just this week [I] lost 4 people [I] know… add that to the 7 people [I] lost since last year,” she shared.
While she and her friends “might lose a bit of connection” by refraining to go out, Laurel noted that she would “rather lose that temporarily than permanently.”
“This is serious [sh*t] don’t wait for it to happen closer to home before [you] do something,” Laurel stressed.
The Department of Health (DOH) yesterday recorded 4,437 additional COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 57,736. A total of 631,320 COVID-19 cases have so far been recorded in the Philippines. The COVID-19 death toll is at 12,484, as of this writing.
The Philippines had the highest additional cases logged so far this year on March 15 with 5,404 infections, exactly a year after a quarantine was imposed on Metro Manila, which came a day before the Luzon-wide lockdown. Daily coronavirus cases in the country may further increase to 10,000 to 11,000 by the end of March, warned OCTA Research, which monitors the trends of COVID-19 in the Philippines.
Aside from the presence of new variants of the disease, the DOH on March 8 said that the rising number of cases can be blamed on the public’s failure to follow health protocols against the spread of COVID-19. JB
