‘Latay’ bags best director plum in Poland
“It’s the best Christmas gift ever,” said Ralston Jover of his being declared Best Director of a Foreign Language Film for “Latay” (Battered Husband) at the 2020 East Europe International Film Festival in Warsaw, Poland.
Jover told Inquirer Entertainment on Wednesday that he felt “very overwhelmed” by his most recent victory. “‘Latay’ has given me so many surprises this year, despite the difficult times. I am deeply humbled by the recognition,” he added.
The Polish festival ran from Dec. 14 to 19.
“Latay,” starring Allen Dizon and Lovi Poe, dwells into the brewing turmoil of an unusual rural couple, where the husband is the awkwardly “suffering” type, while the wife expresses discontent towards their dysfunctional relationship via her violent streak.
The film, produced by BG Productions International, previously won a Silver Remi at the Houston International Film Festival in Texas, USA; and a Gold Award at the Wallachia International Film Festival in Romania. —Marinel Cruz INQ
